Levi Stemple
LEVI STEMPLE, one of the most popular, and enterprising hotel-keepers in Carroll and adjoining counties, is proprietor of the leading hostelry in Carrollton, known as the "Hotel Van-Horn." He is a native of Carroll County, having been born August 15, 1839, in Washington Township, tenth in the
order of birth in the family of six sons and five daughters born to Jacob and Eva (Easterday) Stemple. Jacob Stemple was born in Preston County, Virginia, whence, in 1818, be moved to Ohio, settling in what is now Carroll County,
where he and his wife both died. He was a farmer by occupation, and had participated in the War of 1812 under Gen. Harrison, serving as corporal, and later, as captain in the militia.
